Some of these Ganpatis are renowned as ‘Navsala Pavnara’ (wish-fulfilling) Ganpatis. The Pavan Ganesh of Katpur is one such famous Ganpati. Devotees believe that heartfelt prayers offered to this Ganpati are fulfilled. The unique feature of this temple is the Ganesh idol, which is enshrined in the shape of a large coconut. This small temple is a place of faith for thousands of devotees in the Paithan taluka.
According to iconography, Ganesh idols are classified as Siddhivinayak, Riddhi-vinayak, Buddhivinayak, and Shakti-vinayak. If the trunk of the Ganpati is turned towards the upper right hand, it is considered Siddhivinayak, while if it is turned towards the upper left hand, it is called Riddhi-vinayak. Similarly, if the tip of the trunk is turned towards the lower right hand, it is Buddhivinayak, and if it is turned towards the lower left hand, it is considered Shakti-vinayak. The trunk of the Pavan Ganpati idol in this temple is turned towards the lower right side. Therefore, it is believed that the Pavan Ganpati here is in the form of Buddhivinayak.
The temple is situated amidst a cluster of houses and shops along the main road of the village. A large Swastika symbol is installed at the entrance. On both sides of this entrance, there are shops selling prasad and worship materials. A pavilion has been erected in front of the main temple, where Mushakraj (the mouse), carved from a single stone, is placed on a pedestal. The mouse is depicted sitting on two legs, holding a large laddu in its hands. Inside the temple, directly in front, the Ganesh idol is enshrined on a high platform in the shape of a large coconut. The idol is adorned with vermilion (sindoor) and features a silver crown and silver eyes. Below the idol is Mushakraj. Behind the coconut shape, a golden-colored halo (prabhaval) has been created. In front of this Ganesh idol, the holy footprints (padukas) of Ganpati are placed for worship. One must take darshan of the Ganesh idol through the temple doorway. There is also a circumambulation path (pradakshina marg) around the temple.
It is believed that Pavan Ganpati fulfills the vows of his devotees. Consequently, many devotees from Paithan taluka and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district come to have darshan of this Ganpati. After the fulfillment of a vow, there is a tradition of offering a garland of 5, 11, 21, or 51 coconuts to this Ganpati. Devotees offer garlands of coconuts according to their capacity. As a result, hundreds of coconut garlands tied by devotees can be seen on the grill in front of the idol.
Aarti is performed every morning and evening at the Pavan Ganesh temple. Many devotees are present for these aartis. There is a large crowd of devotees here every Tuesday, Sunday, and on every Sankashti Chaturthi. Since thousands of devotees come for darshan on Angarki Chaturthi, the area takes on the appearance of a fair. Ganeshotsav is celebrated here on a grand scale. During this time, the temple and its surroundings are illuminated. Various religious programs are organized here during the ten days of Ganeshotsav. This includes kirtans and discourses by renowned kirtankars and speakers. Devotees can perform rituals and pujas such as daily abhishek, Laghurudra, Sahasravartane, Sankalp Puja, and Vahan Puja at this temple.
