A grand and magnificent temple of Shri Gajanan Maharaj has been established in Alandi by the Shri Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan, Shegaon. This temple was built with the objective of providing convenience to the devotees visiting Alandi for the darshan of Mauli and to propagate the Bhagavata Dharma, and it offers numerous facilities. Although the temple is located in a bustling area on the main road, the atmosphere here is perfect for peace of mind. This temple was constructed by the Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan in Alandi in the year 1998. Upon entering the temple premises, the intricate craftsmanship of the architecture catches the eye. The temple has been built using Dholpur stone. Thousands of devotees visit this temple daily to see this structure, which has been created using modern architecture.
The main temple of Gajanan Maharaj is situated at a height. One can reach the assembly hall (sabhamandap) by climbing approximately 50 steps. There are two stairways for entry and exit. A beautiful garden located between the stairways and the premises enhances the beauty of the temple. The structure of the temple consists of an assembly hall below and the idol of Gajanan Maharaj above. The assembly hall houses the image and padukas (footprints) of Maharaj. Many devotees perform namasmaran and parayan here. White marble has been used throughout the assembly hall. The marble carvings on the pillars here are exquisite. Skilled artisans from Rajasthan have carried out the construction and the intricate artwork of the temple.
The temple trust provides many services and facilities for the citizens of the surrounding area. Health check-ups are conducted for citizens from rural areas, and they are provided with treatment. Additionally, services such as a disability rehabilitation center, eye surgery camps, and a mobile hospital for rural areas are also provided. The Sansthan has informed that 1.75 crore patients have benefited from these initiatives implemented by the trust so far. Furthermore, the trust runs free medical centers in Pandharpur, Alandi, and Trimbakeshwar, and also operates a Warkari Shikshan Sanstha. Programs such as personality development camps for children, spiritual awakening through discourses, kirtans, Dindi yatras and lectures, promotion of saint literature, and yoga camps are also conducted.
Well-equipped Bhakta Niwas (pilgrim accommodation) and a Prasadalaya (dining hall) have been made available here. Accommodation is provided at a nominal cost. Additionally, Prasad is available for devotees in the afternoon and evening. Every year on 13 February, the Gajanan Maharaj Prakat Din is celebrated here with great enthusiasm. On this occasion, bhajans, kirtans, and discourses are held. During the Shri Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Samadhi Sohala festival held on Kartik Vadya Trayodashi, Mahaprasad is served to about one lakh devotees by the temple trust. During the Kartiki Yatra, free health check-ups and treatments are provided at the dispensary here.
The temple doors open for devotees at 5 in the morning. Following this, Mangal Vadan is performed from 5 to 5.30 in the morning. After Kakada from 5.30 to 6, and Puja and Abhishek from 6 to 7, the Aarti of the Lord takes place at 7.15 in the morning. Subsequently, an Aarti is held between 11 and 11.30. The evening Aarti takes place at sunset. On Ekadashi, Mondays, and Thursdays, devotees can have darshan in the temple until 10 at night; on other days, the time is until 9.30 at night.
The sanctum sanctorum houses the divine idol consecrated according to ancient Vedic traditions, surrounded by serene courtyards and traditional temple architecture.
