Chandrakant Joshi, also known as Dada Maharaj Joshi, a teacher by profession, had taken a vow to build 21 Ganesha temples in various places. Accordingly, he built Ganesha temples in six locations: Jalgaon, Dhule, Nandurbar, Solapur, Nashik, and Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh. The ‘Ichhamani Ganesh Temple’ in Nashik is one of them. The temple was established in 1986 on the auspicious day of Gudi Padwa, which marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year. The idol was consecrated by the hands of Dada Maharaj Joshi. The temple underwent renovation in 2007.
As this temple was built in recent times, bricks and cement have been used in its construction. The temple spire is very tall and is topped with a Kalash. The exquisite carvings enhance the beauty of the temple. There is a garden within the temple premises. Beyond the garden, one can see a spacious Sabhamandap (assembly hall). In the sanctum sanctorum, there is a beautiful marble idol of Ganesha. On both sides of Ganesha are the idols of Riddhi and Siddhi. A silver umbrella is placed over all three idols.
Bhajan and Kirtan programs are frequently held in this temple. On Vinayaki and Sankashti Chaturthi, the Atharvashirsha is recited 51 times. A Namasaptah is organized starting from the day of Gudi Padwa. The Ganesha Janmotsav (birth celebration) is also celebrated here. On this day, a Ganesha Yaga is performed by 101 couples. During this time, the temple is adorned with electric lighting and floral decorations. During festive seasons, discourses on the Bhagavata Purana, Ramayana, and Mahabharata are organized. So far, the temple has hosted Kirtans and discourses by stalwarts like Baba Maharaj Satarkar, Sadguru Wamanrao Pai, and Shankar Maharaj Abhyankar.
Along with cultural programs, the temple trust also carries out social activities such as blood donation camps twice a year and the distribution of Diwali snacks. Aarti is performed every morning and evening. Devotees can visit the temple for Darshan from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Many devotees come here daily to perform Abhishek to Ganesha.
